Bubbles || 2024

“‘Bubbles’ invites viewers to journey through the artist's memories, blending the charm of the past with the innovation of the present.”

“Bubbles” travels back into the artist's past, revealing a world of childhood memories and inventive sparks. Created for the "Screensavers" exhibition, it's a whimsical blend of nostalgia and modernity.

Remembering the charm of the Windows bubble screensaver, it remains a beloved memory from childhood, despite its lack of practicality. There's also a fond recollection of a desktop with an image of hugging golden snub-nosed monkeys, a source of amazement at nature, until the computer was eaten by a virus.

These memories sparked an idea: What if the bubbles were real? The artist combined digital painting techniques with real bubbles by transferring the imagery onto a transparent plastic surface submerged in soapy water. They captured the interplay of light and bubbles in photographs, integrating the most captivating compositions back into the original digital painting.

Departing from their usual methods, the artist embraced experimentation to infuse the piece with a sense of playfulness. As a mixed media artist, Jenni enjoys exploring unexpected avenues within familiar techniques.

This edition were created as a part of SCREENSAVERS Exhibition, exhibited digitally & physically at UNCOMMON GALLERY, Seoul, Korea.
